A Packed February for London's Design Community
While January's furniture fairs target retailers and buyers, February shifts focus to architects, designers, and specifiers. Three London events in quick succession. Surface Design Show (3-5 Feb at the BDC), Workspace Design Show (25-26 Feb at the BDC), and Futurebuild (3-5 Mar at ExCeL). Cover complementary ground. All three offer free entry with registration, and all three are packed with CPD-accredited content.
Surface Design Show: Touch, Feel, Specify
The Surface Design Show at the Business Design Centre in Islington is a tactile feast. 180+ exhibitors showcasing everything from natural stone and engineered timber to bio-based composites and recycled metals. The 2026 theme "Material Evolution" runs through 12 hours of CPD seminars, and the Surface Design Awards celebrate the year's most innovative material applications. Note the unusual Tuesday opening time: 4pm-9pm, designed for networking over drinks. Wednesday and Thursday run 9am-5:30pm. Angel tube station is a 5-minute walk.
Workspace Design Show: The Future of the Office
Three weeks later, the same venue hosts the Workspace Design Show under the theme "Connected Realities." This is the UK's only event dedicated exclusively to workplace interiors. Furniture systems, acoustic solutions, lighting, flooring, and technology for the modern office. The 2026 edition is notable for the launch of the inaugural Workspace Design Awards on the evening of 25 February, held in the Peldon Rose-designed "Exhale" pavilion. If you're involved in specifying or procuring workplace environments, this two-day show is essential.
Futurebuild: Low-Carbon Construction at Scale
Crossing into early March, Futurebuild at ExCeL London is the UK's most impactful event for the sustainable built environment. The 21st edition themed "Connect" features the National Retrofit Conference, an Innovation Trail, and hundreds of exhibitors covering low-carbon materials, smart building technology, and renewable energy systems. If sustainability is part of your practice's positioning. And increasingly it must be. Futurebuild provides the evidence base, supplier contacts, and CPD hours to back it up. ExCeL is easily reached via Custom House on the Elizabeth line.
Plan Your February
All three events are free to attend. Surface Design Show (3-5 Feb) and Workspace Design Show (25-26 Feb) are both at the Business Design Centre. If you know the venue from one, the other is zero-friction. Futurebuild (3-5 Mar) requires the trip to ExCeL but rewards it with a broader, construction-scale perspective. Together, they cover the full spectrum from material sample to completed building.
